What is a Camera Crane / Jib?

The jib or camera crane is a mechanical device that is used to hold a camera on an extended arm. With the camera, the camera crane / jib is able to rotate around its own axis and move up and down resulting in extremely smooth pans and tilts. Using a jib for panning, objects in the foreground appear to move faster than the main subject. Objects in the background move slower.  The main subject is shown at different angles as the jib pans, giving a highly desirable three dimensional look. With a jib, you can place a camera in a corner and have it rotate on a remote axis which results in a room looking larger than if using a tripod mounted camera. Camera moves are smoother than when mounted on a tripod. The camera is able to move from one location to another while zooming out, rising or descending at the same time, producing incredible footage. Jibs are commonly used in studio applications, stage productions and commercials. The jib or camera crane is increasingly finding its way into weddings and Bar / Bat Mitzvah receptions.

Camera movement is more than just a gimmick used in high-end production.
It is a powerful creative tool for every producer/director. It can direct a viewer, increase visual impact, move a scene along or add drama or visual tension when needed. Once set-up, the Jib allows a Producer/Director to achieve multiple angles and movements quickly and seamlessly. Low angles, tracking shots and reveals are only a rehearsed direction away. Setup for indoor and outdoor shoots, our Jib can become the perfect tool for capturing the angles you need to create visuals that match your concept.

The Jib delivers “high production values” to the most cost conscious production.
One of the most cost effective camera cranes on the market, our Jib can be set up in just a few minutes to work in many different ways. It can work in small scenes with as little as a three foot reach or be staged to give a 36’ circle of movement.
